[BOROMIR]

Boromir has (in my VERY biased opinion) the finest and noblest quotes in the lotr. This is a complete quote section with (I think) every word that came out of his brave lips. They are arranged by location, and begin with the book quotes and are followed by the movie quotes. So if you are a purist you can start right in, and if you like the movie you can skip the book ones (although I do not recommend that). Namarie!

Memories of Boromir in TTT & RotK

"Great harm is this death to Minas Tirith, and to us all. That was a worthy man; All spoke his praise. More like the swift sons of Eorl than to the grave Men of Gondor he seemed to me, and likely to prove a great captain of his people when his time came."
[Eomer about Boromir in TTT]

"Boromir son of Denethor was High Warden of the White
Tower, and our Captain-General: sorely do we miss him."
[Faramir about Boromir in TTT]

"Boromir was a valiant member of our Company.
Yes I was his friend for my part."
[Frodo about Boromir in TTT]

"In the water a warrier lay asleep. A broken sword was on his knee. I saw many wounds on him. It was Boromir, my brother, dead. I knew his gear, his sword, his beloved face. One thing only I missed: his horn. One thing only I knew not: a fair belt, as it were linked golden leaves, about his waist. Boromir! I cried. Where is thy horn? Whither goest thou? O Boromir! But he was gone."
[Faramir about Boromir in TTT]

"He died well, achieving some good thing.
His face was more beautiful even than in life."
[Faramir about Boromir in TTT]

"And this I remember of Boromir as a boy, when we together learned the tale of our sires and the history of our city, that always it displeased him that his father was not king. 'How many hundreds of years needs it to make a steward a king, if the king returns not?' he asked. 'Few years, maybe, in other places of less royalty,' my father answered. 'In Gondor ten thousand years would not suffice.' Alas! Poor Boromir. Does that not tell you something of him?"
[Faramir about Boromir in TTT]

"It must have irked Boromir to run from Orcs,
or even from the fell thing you name, the Balrog -
even though he was the last to leave."
[Faramir about Boromir in TTT]

"So even was my brother, Boromir: a man of prowess, and for that he was accounted the best man in Gondor. And very valiant indeed he was: no heir of Minas Tirith has for long years been so hardy in toil, so onward in battle, or blown a mightier note on the Great Horn." Faramir sighed and fell silent for a while.
[Faramir about Boromir in TTT]

"And Boromir of your City was with us, and he saved me in the snows of the North, and at the last he was slain defending me from many foes!"
[Pippin about Boromir in RoftheK]

"Boromir claimed the errand and would not suffer any other to have it. He was a masterful man, and one to take what he desired. I journeyed far with him and learned much of his mood."
[Gandalf about Boromir in RoftheK]

Boromir, which Pippin had liked from the first,
admiring the great man's lordly but kindly manner.
[Pippin about Boromir in RoftheK]

"The mightiest man may be slain by one arrow, and Boromir was pierced by many. When last I saw him he sank beside a tree and plucked a blackfeathered shaft from his side. But I honour his memory, for he was very valiant. He died to save us, my kinsman Meriadoc and myself, waylaid in the woods by the soldiery of the Dark Lord; and though he fell and failed, my gratitude is none the less."
[Pippin about Boromir in RoftheK]
